Post Database Crash IssuesWhen the database server started to act up we dumped the database to prevent us from reverting to a backup that was 12 hours older. The only fear was of course that some of the data had already gone missing or corrupt. Since the backup looked solid enough we've decided to get the site up again with the last minute backup. At this moment however some nasty issues has surfaced. Besides the last minute data we lost because of what was done at the site after the backup, here's what we know:

Unable to delete artworksIt seems that the delete action of the artworks is slightly bugged. A nice big error appears when you try to remove an artwork, and against my expectations it really doesn't delete the artwork. Martijn, if you could be so kind to have a look at: actions/delete_item.php Because it generates: Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/gfxartist/public_html/actions/delete_item.php:23) |

Active vote glitchRecently I received a few emails/reports about new artworks that had one active vote less than they should have. However since the votes are recalculated over night, this problem resolves itself. Never the less, it can prevent artworks from being in the top 10 for one day because they miss the points of that one vote. I'm not entirely sure what goes wrong, but I'll pass it on to Martijn. Regarding active votes. At GFXartist the votes an artwork receive have a lifespan of about a week. This keeps the top lists dynamic and prevents artworks from stying in the top 10 for ever and ever. At the artwork both the active score and total score are displayed. The active score influences the rank of the artwork, while the total score shows how many votes/points it has gathered in total. Based on the total score we compile the G-spot. |

DEVLOG: Broken BlogLet's face it, the blog's launch wasn't spectacular and after a couple of days I also get the idea that the blog has a couple of nasty bugs. When I published this thing it didn't show up at first. At the blog overview the related blogs aren't listed. You can only get to a single blog post by clicking the tiny comments link and when you get there the related items show, but are pretty broken. The only place the related items work correctly is where you edit the item... There were also problems with the save, publish and edit buttons/links. If the blog item is yours, you should be able to edit, save and publish it now. I'll be spending a little time today to iron out a few wrinkles for as far as my knowledge allows me. Update - I've fixed the related blog items. - I've turned the tiny comments link into Comments (x). - 'permalink' added to the title and/or the image. - Display of latest blog on the profile page tweaked. |

Get Blogging at GFXartistAs we expand the features available for subscribed members, we dive more and more into the personal publications. The interview system is already available and now subscribers also have a personal blog. This weblog allows artists to broadcast their opinions, advertise the projects they work on, show a glimpse of their personal life and more. The editor supports the UBB code which is also available in the forum. With these tools the blog can be used to publish a wide range of articles. Of course the readers can jump in and comment on your entries. In the near future we'll also be listing the new and popular entries on a page to make the items more accessible. Just one step away from a community news section if that's how you can call it. The keywords you supply for your entry will list related entries by other members. Every blog is also available in RSS format for syndication, as well as your new artworks for that matter. Keeping an eye on your favourite members will become easier than ever. In this early stage there will still be some features that need to be added to the blog, but as you can see the core functionality is there. Enjoy. |
